Why Can’t I Sleep?

If you’re not able to sleep at night, you’re not alone. Millions of American’s aren’t able to get to sleep at night. There are several possible reasons why you’re not able to sleep. It’s always good to examine some of these things and see if any of them are a contributing factor as to why you can’t sleep.

  • Keep a routine - Waking up and going to bed at the same time every day creates a pattern to help your body know when it’s time to sleep.
  • Shut out the light – Get a sleep mask and hide your clock if you need to. Darkness is a huge signal that tells your brain it’s time to sleep. (No electronics before bed!)
  • Keep things quiet – This can be difficult depending upon where you live and if your partner snores. Nevertheless, this can be a huge factor as to why you can’t sleep.
  • Clean your room – If you’re living in a mess, you’re unable to fully relax. A clean space makes for a clear and restful mind and body.
  • No animals on the bed – It makes perfect sense. It’s hard to sleep if you have a cat lying on your head.

When you can’t sleep, it’s a good idea to get up and do something for 10 minutes or so. Read a book, take a warm shower, or get something to drink.
