Daily Reflections

, by Weight Loss Challenge

A key part of achieving your weight loss goal is reflection. It’s important to keep track of where you are, where you want to go, and to make sure that the actions you’re taking now are helping you reach those goals. A good way to do this is to keep a journal, and take a few minutes to reflect on the decisions you made each day. Start by asking yourself two questions. The first question is “what did I do well today?” It’s important to recognize your achievements, even the small ones! Did you get 30 minutes of exercise in today? Maybe you were able to walk an extra mile! Or perhaps you got all your servings of vegetables in that day. Whatever you did well that day, write it down, and take a moment to appreciate the steps your taking to reach your goal.

The second question to ask yourself is “what did I learn today?” This is a great way to make sure the decisions you’re making are helping you reach your goal, and it gives you the opportunity to realize and change any habits that may be holding you back. If you had a slip up, don’t beat yourself up about it! Instead, focus on why you slipped up, and what you can do tomorrow to avoid it. For example maybe your day was so busy that you didn’t have time to get any exercise in. Think about what you could do next time you have a busy day, and try to plan ahead ways to integrate physical activity into your day. Maybe park a couple blocks farther away from work so you can get some extra steps in, or try to have a “walking meeting” with one of your coworkers instead of sitting at your desk! Whatever you learned that day good or bad, write it down and recognize the changes you could make to help you reach your weight loss goal!
