Changing your Attitude

, by Weight Loss Challenge

Everybody knows that in order to lose weight, it’s necessary to eat a healthier diet and exercise. However even if you are doing all of this right, there may still be one thing that’s holding you back – your attitude. Your mental outlook of your journey can be the difference between success and failure. Self-defeating thoughts are often overlooked when someone gets off track. For example you may feel disappointed when a quick fix doesn’t show results, or when you cave into eating an extra bowl of ice cream. If you can’t resolve or overcome these thoughts, making major changes to your lifestyle can be difficult, even impossible. Here are some tips to staying positive in your weight loss journey.

  • Mix things up: Often times people get bored of doing the same routine every day, which can make it hard to stay motivated. Changing things up can also stop your body from hitting a plateau. Try a fun class at your gym such as yoga or Zumba, or go on a hike and enjoy the fresh air if you get sick of going to the gym. The key is to keep yourself entertained so you don’t get burnt out of your workouts.
  • Stop with the scale: Try and stay away from weighing yourself as much as possible. If you’re weighing yourself everyday you are not going to see any big changes, which can be disappointing. Instead weigh yourself at most once a week, and instead pay attention to how your clothes are fitting. If your clothes are getting looser then you are on the right track!
  • Treat yourself: Treat yourself once a week to something such as a milkshake or a cheeseburger that isn’t part of your regular diet. If you try to cut out all unhealthy foods from your diet, chances are you won’t be able to keep up with it for very long. If you have your treat scheduled into your week already, you won’t view it as a setback, but instead a small reward for working hard all week.
  • Build yourself up: Never talk down to yourself or about yourself, even if you have a slip up. Instead fill your mind with thoughts such as “I can do this. This is easy. I feel good about the changes I’m making. Good for me for caring about my health. I deserve to be healthy.”
